Gallery Group of the York Art Association: Policies, Expectations, Tips

Purpose & Membership:

·        Purposes:  to offer non-traditional venues for members to display and sell art, in places of business, community centers, etc. and to expand exposure for YAA membership and programs

·        Membership in Gallery Group is open to any current member of YAA, and is free.

Policies for artwork

·        Pieces at venues must be original artwork, not commercially reproduced. (Photography is accepted.)

·        Artwork must be for sale.

·        Mat and glass and frame must be clean.

·        Art must be framed or gallery wrapped with finished edges, wired for hanging unless free standing.

·        Use official Gallery Group tags on cardstock (available in YAA office), trim the tag and print information clearly and neatly before arriving at venue.

·        Artists price their own work.

·        Artwork should be protected for transport, but take wrapping & cardboard with you after delivery.

·        Artwork should remain no longer than 1 week at YAA, & only when it’s necessary.

Expectations of members

·        If you sign up for an exhibit, show up for the switchout.

·        Contact the coordinator ASAP if you are unable to participate after signing up.

·        If unable to be at a switchout but still want to exhibit, contact a fellow artist (not the coordinator) to arrange delivery and pickup.

·        With permission of the coordinator, you may leave a piece at a venue for the next exhibit period.

·        Please do not expect the coordinator to be responsible for transporting/storing your artwork.

·        Contact the coordinator of the venue to sign up, and with any questions about types of art appropriate for that site.

·        Attend meetings whenever possible (3rd Friday of each month, 1 pm at the YAA.  Meetings normally last about ½ hour).

·        Supply your current phone #’s and email to the group facilitator for the roster.

Tips for sales

If you sell a piece, contact the coordinator with title & price, make arrangements to meet the buyer, and replace the piece with one of similar size.

·        Vary the pieces you show among venues; it’s okay to repeat after a year or so.

·        Keep track of your pieces at various venues:  where, what, & prices

·        Choose appropriate subject matter for the venue or season.

·        If you have questions about subject matter, size or style, the coordinator can advise you.

·        Smaller pieces seem to sell more quickly, but be careful not to undervalue them.
